G.I. Blues

G.I. Blues centres on Tulsa McLean, an American soldier stationed in West Germany who plays in a band with his fellow servicemen. All of them are saving toward the nightclub they hope to open once their military service ends. To speed up that goal, Tulsa takes part in a wager: his friend is supposed to win over Lili, a dancer at a local club known for keeping her distance. When the friend is reassigned to Alaska, Tulsa has to pursue Lili himself to keep the bet alive, and his feelings complicate the plan.

The 1960 film was directed by Norman Taurog, the tenth of the fourteen films he directed in chronological order, following Pardners and preceding Blue Hawaii. Henry Garson and Edmund Beloin wrote the screenplay, and Hal B. Wallis produced for Paramount. Elvis Presley stars as Tulsa, with Juliet Prowse as Lili, alongside Robert Ivers, James Douglas, Letícia Román and Sigrid Maier among a credited cast of twenty-nine.

G.I. Blues runs 104 minutes and blends comedy, music and romance. It performed well commercially, taking about 9 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from roughly 4,800 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from a much smaller base of 79 votes.
