What's left behind the scenes
- The draft board gave Elvis Presley (1935-1977) a two-month deferment to finish filming, after which he was drafted into the army.
- Producer Hal B. Wallis personally asked Michael Curtiz to direct the film. Curtiz initially refused, but then changed his mind – allegedly after watching several previous films starring Elvis Presley.
- James Dean was originally intended to play the lead role, however the actor died in a car accident in 1955 at the age of 24. After his death, Elvis Presley was cast in the lead role and the script was changed.
