What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the book "Beauty and the Beast" («La Belle et la Bête») by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.
  • The film was shot almost entirely against a green screen; only a few rooms of the houses and castle, parts of the ballroom, and the palace's street walls served as actual sets.
  • Vincent Cassel had to play his scenes as the Beast twice – first, he performed each of his episodes in special makeup and costume, and then the actor replayed each scene with facial expressions so that the movements of his face could be superimposed onto the Beast's digital head.
