What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Dan Brown, which is the fourth book in the series about the adventures of Robert Langdon.
- Initially, Ron Howard was reluctant to film another movie based on Dan Brown's novel about Professor Robert Langdon. He decided to remain with the creative team for the film “The Lost Symbol” as a producer. Mark Romanek was appointed as the director, and Tom Hanks once again landed the lead role. Meanwhile, Brown released a fourth novel titled “Inferno,” and the studio shelved the “The Lost Symbol” project, justifying its decision with the alleged similarity of its plot and overall idea to John Turteltaub’s adventure film “National Treasure” (2004). Studio executives decided to film a movie based on Brown’s fourth novel with Hanks in the lead role. Howard took on directing “Inferno.” As for the adaptation of “The Lost Symbol,” this project remained in limbo for a long time, and its future was uncertain. However, on January 20, 2017, following the successful release of “Inferno,” the start of its production was announced.
- On July 13, 2013, the film company "Sony Pictures" scheduled the release of "Inferno" for December 18, 2015. It later became known that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would be released on December 14, 2015, and the premiere of "Inferno" was postponed to October 2016.
- Tom Hanks' third appearance on screen as Robert Langdon after his work in the films directed by Ron Howard, "The Da Vinci Code" (2006) and "Angels & Demons" (2009). Howard also directed "Inferno" (2016).
- During location shooting, the working title of the film was “Headache,” possibly due to the concussion that Robert Langdon received at the very beginning of the events described.
