The Getaway

The Getaway centres on Doc McCoy, a career criminal who is released from a Mexican prison through the efforts of his wife Carol and a corrupt official named Jack Benyon. Benyon's help comes with strings attached: he expects the couple to carry out a bank robbery on his behalf. When the job goes wrong and a guard is killed, Doc and Carol go on the run with the money, pursued by both the police and Doc's former partners. Directed by Roger Donaldson, it is the sixth of the fifteen films he has made, following White Sands and preceding Species. The screenplay was written by Walter Hill and Amy Holden Jones, and the producers were David Foster, John Alan Simon and Lawrence Turman.

Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger lead the cast as Doc and Carol McCoy, with Michael Madsen as Rudy Travis, James Woods as Jack Benyon, David Morse as Jim Deer Jackson and Jennifer Tilly as Fran Carvey. Thirty-six performers are credited in total. Made for a budget of 37 million dollars, the film took in about 30 million dollars worldwide, less than its production cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from roughly 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.8 from around 400 votes; a critics' score of 4.9 from 24 reviews places it somewhat below the audience figures. The result was a modest performer with viewers and critics alike.
