What's left behind the scenes

  • Sharon Taylor worked as a schoolteacher during the filming of the movie, and it was her only film role.
  • The helicopter crash in the mountains was unintentional and unplanned. The tail rotor blades struck the ground, causing the helicopter to lose control and crash. Fortunately, neither the wreckage nor the blades hit the police officers behind the barricade or the crew members. The helicopter pilot sustained only minor injuries. As they were pulled from under the wreckage, Jack Riley (1935-2016) and George Wilson quickly came up with lines to complete the scene, while the helicopter wreckage meanwhile caught fire. Renting the helicopter cost $60,000, so its loss cost the film's budget more than all other expenses combined.
  • The large protective earmuffs on the tomato at the end of the film are toilet seats.
  • The film was financed by relatives of its creators, and some of them even appeared on screen in cameo roles.
  • J. Stephen Peace performed all of his own stunts, and in the scene where he is dragged along the asphalt by a car, he lay on his stomach on a wooden board with wheels.
