Speedy

Speedy is a silent comedy set in New York City, where Harold "Speedy" Swift struggles to hold down a job, distracted as he is by his love of baseball. He is courting Jane Dillon, whose grandfather, Pop Dillon, owns and operates the city's last horse-drawn trolley. A large railway company wants the old man's route for itself and sets out to force him out of business. When Speedy learns of the scheme, he steps in to help Pop keep the trolley running, rallying support from the neighbourhood's older residents.

Ted Wilde directed the film, his second credit in the facts after The Kid Brother the previous year, and Harold Lloyd produced it through his own company. Lloyd stars as the title character, with Ann Christy as Jane, Bert Woodruff as Pop Dillon, and baseball player Babe Ruth appearing as himself. The credited cast runs to 29 performers.

Released in April 1928, the film runs 86 minutes and blends action with comedy.
