"Siriana" is a geopolitical term used by the CIA to designate Middle Eastern regions hostile to the United States.
For his role in the film, George Clooney gained over 10 kg (22 lbs) on a special "pasta diet," but refused the director's suggestion to shave his head. These experiments with his own weight caused Clooney health problems: he injured his back while performing one of the stunts and suffered from headaches for a long time.
The film's screenplay is based on a book by former CIA agent Robert Baer. He appears in a cameo as one of the CIA agents in the film.
Michelle Monaghan was originally cast to play Bob's wife in the film, but the director cut all scenes with her participation during final editing.
