- According to Scott Schwartz, the hardest part of working on the film was having Jackie Gleason (1916-1987) as a partner on set. Schwartz memorized his lines as he had been taught, while Gleason constantly improvised and would yell at Schwartz when he stumbled.
- The estate ('Charbonnet House') was huge, but still not large enough to film some scenes, such as the toy car races. A scaled-up replica of the estate's interior was built in a nearby hangar in 6 weeks (it covered an entire acre). It included a staircase, a playroom, a corridor, two bathrooms, and three bedrooms.
