The film is based on the manga of the same name by Kazuo Koike, which was published between 1972 and 1973.
Meiko Kaji's song "Shura no Hana" was used by Quentin Tarantino in the finale of the first part of "Kill Bill," and many shots and elements of the film were also borrowed from it.
