What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was titled “Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë” (Emily Brontë, 1818-1848) because Samuel Goldwyn Co. threatened to sue Paramount Pictures, as they owned the rights to the title “Wuthering Heights” after the 1939 adaptation by William Wyler (1902-1981). Samuel Goldwyn (1882-1974) was even allowed to fine Paramount Pictures $2,500 each time they failed to include Brontë's name in the film's title for any reason.
  • Ralph Fiennes himself insisted on including a scene in the film where Heathcliff beats his head against a tree trunk, longing for Cathy. Moreover, he hit his head against the tree so hard that he drew blood.
