Short description

Lady Divine runs a travelling show called the Cavalcade of Perversion, a seedy attraction that draws in unsuspecting visitors. What the audience does not know is that the performance is a trap: Lady Divine and her accomplices rob and sometimes kill the people who come to watch. When she learns that her partner, Mr. David, has been involved with a younger woman, the conflict between the two turns violent, and both begin to plot against each other.

Multiple Manicars is a 1970 American comedy, crime and horror film written, produced and directed by John Waters, and the first of his features in the chronological list of his work. Divine leads the cast as Lady Divine, with David Lochary as Mr. David and Mink Stole, Mary Vivian Pearce, Cookie Mueller and Edith Massey among the thirty-five credited performers, a group of regular collaborators in Waters's early films.

Made on a very small budget by Waters's own company, Dreamland, the film was released in April 1970. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from around 5,100 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 128 votes, indicating a modest but established following rather than broad popularity. It sits early in a directing career that later included Pink Flamingos and Hairspray.
