Dahmer

Dahmer is a 2002 crime drama directed and written by David Jacobson, marking his first feature behind the camera. The film follows Jeffrey Dahmer, the Milwaukee factory worker who became one of the most notorious serial killers in American history, as he selects, kills and dismembers young men while evading suspicion for years. Bruce Davison plays his father, Lionel, while Artel Great, Matt Newton, Dion Basco and Kate Williamson appear in supporting roles. Jeremy Renner leads the cast of twenty-two credited performers as Dahmer, a performance that came early in his career.

The film is based on actual events surrounding Dahmer's crimes and the 1992 trial at which he was convicted on fifteen counts of murder. Some characters and incidents are fictionalized, and it stays with Dahmer's isolation, his relationship with his father and grandmother, and the double life he maintained rather than dwelling on courtroom proceedings. Jacobson followed it with Down in the Valley three years later.

A critics' rating of 6.3 from forty-one reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
