Face

Face is a British crime drama set in London in the late 1980s. Ray, a former socialist radical, has taken up armed robbery as socialism's fortunes fade. He leads a small crew that includes Dave, Stevie, Julian and Jason, and their raid on a security firm goes badly: the haul is smaller than expected, the getaway is tight, and the money soon disappears. A bloodied accomplice arrives at Ray's home with word that intruders took the proceeds. The gang turns on itself, hunting for the traitor while the police close in, and the suspicion between them proves as dangerous as the law.

The film was directed by Antonia Bird, its release following Mad Love and Priest and preceding Ravenous. Ronan Bennett wrote the screenplay, and Elinor Day, David M. Thompson and Paul Tivers produced for BBC Film. Robert Carlyle plays Ray, with Ray Winstone, Steven Waddington, Lena Headey, Phil Davis and Damon Albarn among the credited cast of 26.

Face runs 105 minutes. It is rated 6.6 on IMDb from around 5,100 votes and 6.3 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 82 votes, while critics' reviews average 5.4, so the film was received less warmly by critics than by general audiences.
