The New Moscow is a science fiction comedy about a naive young architect from the provinces who arrives in the capital with ambitious plans for the city's total reconstruction. The story follows his attempts to implement these wild designs, though Soviet censors ultimately banned the film from being shown.
Directed and written by Aleksandr Medvedkin, the film was produced by Mosfilm and released in 1938. Within Medvedkin's career, this project follows his 1935 film Happiness and precedes Liberated Earth from 1946. The cast includes Ivan Arkadin, who plays a pediatrician, and Aleksandr Grave in the role of a student.
Audience reception is mixed, as reflected in the ratings. On IMDb, the movie holds a 6.3 score based on 160 votes, while on TMDB it has a slightly lower rating of 5.8 from 23 votes.
