Elvis Presley plays Scott Heyward, the son of a wealthy oil man, who grows tired of being valued for his father's money. He swaps identities with Tom Wilson, a water-ski instructor working at a Florida hotel, and takes the instructor's job while Tom enjoys the comforts of Scott's life. Scott's plan is to find out whether a woman might care for him as an ordinary working man. He falls for Dianne Carter, one of his students, though she is openly searching for a rich husband, and complications follow from the deception he is keeping up.
