The Man I Love

The Man I Love follows Petey Brown, a nightclub singer who returns home to spend the holidays with her family in California and finds them tangled up with Nicky Toresca, the owner of a dubious nightclub. Her sister, her brother and a neighbour's wife are each caught up with him in different ways, and Petey proves capable of standing up to him. Then she meets San Thomas, a jazz pianist whose best days are behind him, and falls for him despite his troubled circumstances.

Raoul Walsh directed the drama, working from a screenplay by Catherine Turney, with Arnold Albert producing for Warner Bros. Pictures. It was Walsh's twelfth film as director in chronological order, arriving between Objective, Burma! in 1945 and Pursued in 1947. Ida Lupino leads as Petey, with Robert Alda as Nicky Toresca, Bruce Bennett as San Thomas, Andrea King, Martha Vickers and Alan Hale among the credited cast of fifty-one. The film runs 96 minutes.
