Sex and the Single Girl is a 1964 American romantic comedy about Bob Weston, a writer for a scandal sheet who thrives on sensational stories. When a young psychologist named Helen Gurley Brown publishes a book about single women, love and relationships, Bob mocks her in print and then sets out to prove she has no personal experience of what she writes about. Unable to get an interview with her directly, he borrows the identity and marital problems of his friend Frank Broderick and introduces himself to Helen as a patient. Complications multiply, drawing in Frank's wife Sylvia and others.
Richard Quine directed the film, which sits between his 1958 Bell, Book and Candle and his later Paris When It Sizzles, among the titles listed from his career. The screenplay is credited to Leslie H. Martinson, Joseph Heller and David R. Schwartz, and William T. Orr produced. Tony Curtis plays Bob, Natalie Wood plays Helen, and Henry Fonda and Lauren Bacall appear as Frank and Sylvia Broderick, with Mel Ferrer as Rudy DeMeyer and Fran Jeffries as Gretchen among a credited cast of 67. On IMDb the film holds a critics' score of 5.4 out of 10 from six reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 84 votes.
