A killer stalks the residents of a Los Angeles apartment building, murdering women with tools carried in a toolbox. Three tenants are found dead, and when fifteen-year-old Laurie Ballard disappears, her brother Joey becomes convinced the same killer took her. With the police making little progress, Joey investigates on his own, and his suspicions settle on the building's strange owner, Vance Kingsley.
The film was directed by Dennis Donnelly and written by Ann Kindberg, Neva Friedenn and Robert Easter, produced by Tony DiDio. Cameron Mitchell plays Vance Kingsley, with Pamelyn Ferdin as Laurie, Nicolas Beauvy as Joey, Wesley Eure, Aneta Corsaut and Tim Donnelly among a credited cast of 23. It runs 93 minutes and belongs to the horror, mystery and thriller genres.
Released in March 1978, the film received a critics' rating of 3 out of 10 from eight reviews, while audiences on IMDb give it 5.2 out of 10 from around 5,600 votes and on TMDB 5.6 out of 10 from 123 votes. The gap between the two audience scores is small, and the much lower critics' figure suggests reviewers were considerably less receptive than viewers.
