PT 109

This wartime drama follows John F. Kennedy during his service in the Pacific in World War II, years before he became president. As a young naval officer, he commands the torpedo boat PT 109 on patrol in the Solomon Islands. When a Japanese destroyer rams and sinks the vessel, Kennedy and the surviving crew are left stranded in enemy waters. They swim to an island, where they struggle to find food and shelter while avoiding detection, and Kennedy works to get word to the Navy so that the men can be rescued.

Leslie H. Martinson directed the film, which was the first feature he directed, ahead of Batman and Fathom. Richard L. Breen wrote the screenplay, and Bryan Foy produced it for Warner Bros. Pictures. Cliff Robertson plays Kennedy, with Ty Hardin, James Gregory, Robert Culp, Grant Williams and Lew Gallo among the credited cast of thirty.
