The film is based on Jules Verne's novel "Around the World in Eighty Days" (Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours, 1873).
This film specifically contributed to the popularity of cameos.
The film's producer, Michael Todd, personally borrowed a barge from the King of Thailand.
The second film to utilize 'Todd-AO' technology (the film is shot on 65mm film and then transferred to 70mm).
