The film is based on real events. In December 1970, US President Richard Nixon (1913-1994) received Elvis Presley (1935-1977) at the White House and made him an honorary agent of the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
Initially, actor Eric Bana was approved for the role of Elvis Presley, but he left the project.
The film includes a fragment from Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (1964).
The scene of Elvis's appearance at Memphis International Airport was filmed at the New Orleans train station.
