What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, the film was titled the same as Guy Lawson's article on which it is based – "Arms and the Dudes".
- The original title of the film translates to "Dogs of War".
- The film's poster is a parody of the famous poster for Brian De Palma's crime drama "Scarface" (1983), to which the main characters of "War Dogs" constantly refer.
- For security reasons, during filming in Miami, the film was referred to as "AK-47".
- The arms manufacturers' forum in Las Vegas, attended by David and Ephraim, is a fictional creation of the film's authors, but it has real-life counterparts. SHOT Show – the world's largest exhibition of hunting and shooting sports equipment – is held annually (usually in January) and lasts four days, in recent years in Las Vegas. Tanks, rockets, and other military equipment shown in the film were filmed at IDEX – an international arms and military equipment exhibition held every two years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
- The International Hotel, where David, played by Miles Teller, is sitting, is not located in Albania, but in the center of Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
- The events taking place in the plot in Albania were filmed in Romania. Even the workers in the warehouse in one of the scenes speak Romanian.
- The role of Iz is played by Ana de Armas, an actress of Cuban-Spanish origin. In Spanish, her last name means "weapon".
- Jonah Hill and his character Ephraim Diveroli were both born on December 20th.
- David Pakouz is 4 years older than Efraim Diveroli. In reality, Miles Teller is 4 years younger than Jonah Hill.
- In 2016, Efraim Diveroli sued Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., director Todd Phillips, producer Bradley Cooper, and several others. The claim demanded a ban on the film's release. The plaintiff asserted that the film was based on his self-published memoir, "Once A Gun Runner."
- The first film directed by Todd Phillips not featuring Matt Walsh.
