Attack

Set during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944, this war drama follows an American infantry company tasked with establishing artillery observation posts in a strategic region of Belgium. The plot centers on the tension between Lieutenant Joe Costa and his superior, Captain Cooney. Costa lacks confidence in Cooney's leadership and competence, viewing him as a coward whose rank was obtained through political influence. This conflict is exacerbated by Colonel Bartlett, who protects Cooney to further his own political ambitions, leaving Costa and his men feeling endangered by the command structure.

Directed by Robert Aldrich, this was the fourth of 17 films he directed, following Kiss Me Deadly and preceding The Last Sunset.
