Nausicaa is a drama about a young woman in France who studies ancient art and has a Greek father. The story blends fictional elements, involving the woman's relationship with a refugee journalist, with testimonies from Greek political refugees fleeing a dictatorship.
Directed and written by Agnès Varda, this production is the fourth of 14 films in her career, following Uncle Yanco and preceding Women Reply. The cast includes France Dougnac, Myriam Boyer, Stavros Tornes, Catherine de Seynes, Gérard Depardieu, and Iannis Angelopoulos, with a total of 21 credited performers. Produced by the Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française, the movie was intended for television but was never broadcast due to political tensions regarding the depiction of Greeks. While a work print was shown in Belgium in 1971, the film now exists in a reconstructed version.
The movie has received generally positive feedback from viewers, holding a 6.6 rating on IMDb based on 177 votes and a 6.3 rating on TMDB from 11 votes.
