- The film was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- Scott Eastwood was originally cast in the film, but was later replaced by Tom Welling. Eastwood himself starred in George Tillman Jr.''s "The Longest Ride" (2015), which was released on April 10, 2015. This melodrama was based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks.
- While studying, Gabby asks the dog: "Do you know how much blood, on average, passes through the human circulatory system in a day?" and answers herself, "That's right, twenty liters." This is incorrect. There are approximately 5 liters of blood in the human body. If Gabby were right, blood would circulate through the body only 4 times a day, or every 6 hours. The correct answer is about 6000 liters.
