Paul Kersey has tried to leave his violent past behind. Living under a new identity, he works as an architecture professor and has found a settled relationship with Olivia Regent, a fashion designer whose business is entangled with organized crime figures. When Olivia's former husband, the mobster Tommy O'Shea, comes after her and her company, Kersey's attempt at a quiet life collapses and he takes matters into his own hands. The story returns the character to the vigilante role that defines the series.
Charles Bronson plays Kersey for the fifth time, with Lesley-Anne Down as Olivia, Michael Parks as O'Shea, and supporting turns from Chuck Shamata, Robert Joy and Saul Rubinek. Allan A. Goldstein directed and wrote the screenplay, and Damian Lee produced. The film runs 95 minutes and was made for about 5 million dollars, a modest figure for an action release of its time, though its worldwide gross of roughly 2 million dollars fell well short of that outlay.
It was released in January 1994 and marks Goldstein's first feature as director, ahead of Virus and 2001: A Space Travesty. Audience response has been limited: on IMDb it holds 4.9 out of 10 from about 9,800 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 out of 10 from a few hundred votes.
