Michael Cimino directed this 1996 crime drama from a screenplay by Charles Leavitt. Woody Harrelson plays Dr. Michael Reynolds, a Los Angeles oncologist whose career is on the rise even as his marriage suffers. Into his care comes Brandon "Blue" Monroe, played by Jon Seda, a teenage patient of mixed Navajo heritage who is facing a terminal tumour. Brandon forces Reynolds at gunpoint to leave the city with him, and the two set out across the American West toward a lake in Navajo country that the young man believes holds healing powers. A police pursuit follows them, and the journey pushes the doctor to question the values that have shaped his life. Anne Bancroft, Alexandra Tydings, Matt Mulhern and Talisa Soto appear in supporting roles.
The film sits seventh in the sequence of Cimino's features, between Desperate Hours and To Each His Own Cinema, and was made for a budget of 31 million US dollars. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.8/10 from six reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.3/10 from 121 votes.
