Sugar Hill

Sugar Hill is a crime drama set in Harlem, where two brothers, Romello and Raynathan Skuggs, have built a drug operation and defended it against rivals, an inheritance of violence tied to their father's fate. Romello, the more calculating of the two, wants out, and his relationship with Mellisa gives him a reason to leave the business behind. Walking away is not simple. His brother has other ideas, his father is consumed by addiction, and the mafia moves in when a dealer tries to go straight. The film follows Romello's attempt to escape a world that does not let go.

Leon Ichaso directed from a screenplay by Barry Michael Cooper. It was the first of the four features listed for Ichaso, ahead of Zooman, Bitter Sugar and El Cantante. Wesley Snipes leads as Romello, with Michael Wright as his brother, Theresa Randle as Mellisa, and Clarence Williams III as their father. Abe Vigoda and Ernie Hudson appear among a credited cast of 41.

Made for about 10 million dollars, the film took roughly 18 million worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a 5.6 rating from 108 votes, while on TMDB the critics' rating is 4.9 from 10 reviews, lower than the audience figure.
