Isle of Dogs
Short description
Set in a future Japanese city called Megasaki, the story follows a twelve-year-old boy named Atari who travels to a remote garbage island to find his lost dog, Spots. The city's mayor has banished all dogs to this wasteland following a canine flu outbreak. Once Atari arrives, he teams up with a pack of exiled dogs to search for his pet and uncover a conspiracy that threatens the region.
This adventure comedy was written and directed by Wes Anderson, marking the 12th of 26 films in his career. It follows The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and precedes The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun (2021). The voice cast includes Bryan Cranston, Koyu Rankin, Bob Balaban, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, and Jeff Goldblum. Produced by companies in the United States and Germany, the film had a budget of 35 million USD and earned 64 million USD at the worldwide box office.

What's left behind the scenes
- Alpaca wool was used to simulate dog fur.
- The filmmakers were influenced by the works of Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998) and the Christmas specials of Rankin/Bass Productions, Inc.
- Director Wes Anderson organized a competition for those wishing to voice a role in the film. Applicants were only required to donate any amount over $10 to the account of a non-profit organization founded by Martin Scorsese to restore and preserve old films.
- Around 20,000 faces were created for the film, and 2,000 puppets were made for the secondary characters. It usually took 2-3 months to create a puppet for one of the main characters.
- The title "Isle of Dogs" is a play on words. If you say it quickly, it sounds like "I love dogs."
