The Secret Life of Pets 2

The Secret Life of Pets 2 continues the story of Max, a terrier whose comfortable life in the city is upended when his owner marries and has a child. The arrival of the baby leaves Max anxious and overprotective, so a trip to the countryside with the family is meant to settle his nerves. Instead, farm life brings him face to face with unfriendly animals and unfamiliar terrain until he meets Rooster, a blunt farm dog who pushes him to overcome his fears. Meanwhile, back in the city, Max's friends face troubles of their own, including Gidget's efforts to recover a treasured toy from a apartment full of cats and Snowball's encounter with a new companion.

The film is the seventh feature directed by Chris Renaud, following the first Pets film and preceding Despicable Me 4. Brian Lynch wrote the screenplay, and Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy produced it for Illumination and Universal Pictures. Patton Oswalt leads the voice cast as Max, joined by Kevin Hart, Eric Stonestreet, Jenny Slate, Tiffany Haddish and Lake Bell, among a credited cast of fifty-five.

Released in May 2019, the animated comedy runs eighty-six minutes. Made for about 80 million dollars, it earned roughly 429 million dollars worldwide, a strong return. On IMDb it holds 6.4 from about 78,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7 from over 3,400 votes; a critics' score of 5.8 from 163 reviews sits below both audience measures.
