What's left behind the scenes
- Ben Affleck was nicknamed Batfleck, and Robert Pattinson was often jokingly called Robat Battinbat on set. This nickname was coined on the Australian podcast The Weekly Planet.
- Initially, it was assumed that Ben Affleck would direct the film and star as the main character, with Joe Manganiello playing the villain.
- The main character's car is a muscle car. In Neil Adams' comics from the 1970s, Batman drove a car that was outwardly unremarkable so as not to attract attention.
- The working title of the film was "Revenge".
- Matt Reeves stated that his version of the Riddler was partially inspired by the infamous serial killer Zodiac, who operated in California in the late 1960s.
- Robert Pattinson's screen test took place in Los Angeles in May 2019 while he was preparing to film "Tenet" (2020). Pattinson tried to lie to Nolan about a family emergency, but the director, well aware of Batman and Warner Bros., immediately figured everything out. When Pattinson told Nolan that he had received the role of Batman just a day before starting filming on "Tenet," he was quite surprised that Nolan already knew and even congratulated him, even though Pattinson hadn't told anyone else.
- The image of Bruce Wayne in the film was inspired by the image of Kurt Cobain.
- Robert Pattinson auditioned for the role of Batman wearing the original Batman suit worn by Val Kilmer in 'Batman Forever.' However, his face didn't fit under the cowl, so he borrowed the cowl from George Clooney's suit in 'Batman & Robin.'
- The idea to portray Catwoman with long, frightening, unpolished nails – ones that looked like claws – belonged to Zoë Kravitz.
- Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz had been friends for a decade before being cast in the lead roles. Reeves thought Pattinson and Kravitz were the right choice for these roles from the very beginning of working on the script.
