What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the novel by Auguste Lebretton.
- The novel's events take place around fifty years ago. Since Alain Delon, who is 33 years old, plays his role in the film, the screenwriters had to slightly 'adjust' the character's biography, in particular, Monique, Sartre's daughter in the novel, became his sister in the film.
- The way Sartre escapes from the prison van, despite its 'cinematic' quality and improbability, is not the author's invention. That is exactly how the notorious gangster René Girier, nicknamed 'The Cane,' escaped at the end of the 1940s. However, unlike Sartre, Girier simply pried a plank out of the van's floor.
