What's left behind the scenes
- David Lynch received funding for the film from his friend Barton Wasserman, who was impressed by Lynch's first animated work (Six Men Getting Sick, 1966).
- Among the sound effects accompanying the film, Lynch also used the recorded crying of his infant daughter, Jennifer.
- The nightmare that formed the basis of the plot was taken from real life – a similar dream was had by David Lynch’s wife’s niece.
