What's left behind the scenes

  • The short film was shot over four nights in one of the Sainsbury Whitechapel supermarkets in London. Filming took place when the supermarket was closed, from 10 pm to 6 am.
  • The modest budget did not allow for any wardrobe expenses, and the main characters borrowed their uniforms from the supermarket temporarily, while shoppers wore their usual everyday clothes.
  • The entire short film contains not a single frame using computer special effects. Everything was shot with a regular camera.
  • Initially, when starting work, the director wanted to see Jamie Bell in the lead role, but the actor ignored the script offered to him.
  • Filming began more than a year after work on the short film was completed. In December 2004, director and screenwriter Sean Ellis decided to develop the plot and wrote the screenplay in seven days. In March 2005, he reached agreements with all the key actors, then secured funding, and in May of the same year, shooting began, lasting 25 days.
  • The budget did not allow for the purchase of uniforms for the supermarket employees, so the actors filmed in their own clothes.
  • The shampoo that Barry and Matt referred to as a 'helper for women' (as the bottle was phallic in shape) is actually a genuine Umberto Giannini brand.
