UglyDolls

UglyDolls takes place in Uglyville, a town where odd-looking stuffed toys live happily and no one is judged for being different. Moxy, a lively doll voiced by Kelly Clarkson, begins to wonder what lies beyond the mountain that surrounds the town. She sets off with her friends, including Wage, Babo and Lucky Bat, and the group arrives at Perfection, a place where conventionally pretty dolls are trained under strict rules before they can go out into the human world and be chosen by a child. The confident Moxy wants a turn at that training, but the instructor in charge does not welcome the newcomers, and the UglyDolls find themselves facing rejection and the pressure to change who they are.

The film was directed by Kelly Asbury, the fifth feature he directed, following Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Shrek 2, Gnomeo & Juliet and Smurfs: The Lost Village. Alison Peck and Blaise Hemingway wrote the screenplay, with Robert Rodriguez among the producers, and the voice cast also includes Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton, Wanda Sykes, Gabriel Iglesias and Leehom Wang. Produced across Canada, China and the United States on a budget of about 45 million dollars, it took in roughly 33 million dollars worldwide.

Audience scores are moderate: on IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from around 8,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 out of 10 from roughly 484 votes. A critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 87 reviews is noticeably lower than both audience scores.
