A Wedding is a 1978 American comedy-drama directed by Robert Altman, who also produced and co-wrote the screenplay with John Considine and Allan F. Nicholls. The story follows the marriage of Muffin Brenner and Dino Corelli, an event meant to unite two very different families: the wealthy, Italian-descended Corellis and the less prosperous Irish-American Brenners. The lavish reception brings together a large group of guests and relatives, and over the course of the day the occasion is marked by tensions, secrets and awkward encounters between the two clans. A death in the family early in the celebrations complicates matters further, and the doctor present decides to keep the news quiet until the festivities are over.
The film stars Desi Arnaz Jr. and Carol Burnett, with Geraldine Chaplin, Howard Duff, Mia Farrow and Vittorio Gassman among the main cast. It has a large ensemble, with seventy credited cast members and forty-six credited crew.
A Wedding was released on September 27, 1978, and runs 125 minutes. It is the ninth of twenty-one films Altman directed, arriving between 3 Women (1977) and Popeye (1980). It holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 on TMDB from 63 votes, while critics gave it 6.4 out of 10 across 13 reviews, so the two measures sit close together.
