Jane Fonda in Five Acts is a documentary about the life of the American actress and activist Jane Fonda, tracing her public and private journey from her early years through her acting career, her political activism and the controversies it provoked, her fitness business and her later return to film work. The film is structured in five acts, framed around the major figures in her life, including her father, the actor Henry Fonda, and her three husbands, and ending with Fonda herself. Through extensive interviews, she speaks directly about her choices, her mistakes and the personal struggles she faced over the decades.
The film is directed by Susan Lacy, who also produced it with Jessica Levin and Emma Pildes, and it follows her earlier documentary Spielberg from 2017. Made for television by HBO Documentary Films with Film4 Productions, it runs 133 minutes and draws on archival footage featuring figures such as Tom Hayden, Robert Redford, Lily Tomlin and Ted Turner. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 from 72 votes, indicating a modest but generally favorable response from users.
