'R Xmas

Set in New York City in 1993, the film follows a married couple who appear to be living a comfortable life. She is of Puerto Rican background and he is of Dominican origin, and their prosperity comes from trafficking heroin and running a drug business with the discipline of any legitimate enterprise. As Christmas approaches, the wife senses the emptiness of their routine and wonders about another kind of life. Then their dealer network becomes a source of suspicion after they suspect one of their distributors may be an informant for the police. A larger crisis follows when the husband is abducted, and the wife must gather money and drugs to secure his release in time for the holiday.

Abel Ferrara directed and wrote the screenplay with Scott Pardo. The film is the eleventh of the seventeen features he has directed in chronological order, arriving after New Rose Hotel and before Mary. Drea de Matteo and Lillo Brancato play the wife and husband, with Ice-T as the kidnapper and Victor Argo as Louie among a credited cast of forty. Pierre Kalfon produced this United States and France co-production, made for about 3 million dollars.
