Alexis Winston is a young figure skater with Olympic ambitions, coached by Beulah Smith and encouraged by her boyfriend, Nick Peterson. Her father, Marcus, has his doubts, but Alexis works her way toward the finals. Just as she reaches the height of her promise, a rare accident ends her competitive career and leaves her struggling to see a way forward. With the support of the people closest to her, she tries to rebuild her confidence and prove that her talent has not been lost.
Donald Wrye directed and co-wrote the film with Gary L. Baim, and John Kemeny produced it for Columbia Pictures. It followed Wrye's 1976 film Born Innocent and came before his 2010 film of the same title. Lynn-Holly Johnson plays Alexis, with Robby Benson as Nick, Colleen Dewhurst as Beulah, Tom Skerritt as Marcus, and Jennifer Warren and David Huffman in supporting roles.
The drama, with a romantic thread, runs 108 minutes. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 rating from around 4,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 from a much smaller base of 83 votes. A critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from nine reviews places it below the audience scores.
