What's left behind the scenes

  • The abandoned Konjiam Psychiatric Hospital is located in Gwangju. It was closed for economic reasons in 1996, but local legends say it was due to a series of mysterious patient deaths.
  • In 2012, CNN included Konjiam Hospital in its list of the 7 most haunted places on the planet. The list also included the Sedlec Ossuary, Hashima Island (Battleship Island), the Pripyat amusement park, the Island of the Dolls in Mexico, the Aokigahara forest (Suicide Forest) in Japan, and the voodoo market in Togo. Since then, the building has attracted tourists from all over the world.
  • Filming took place in a derelict school building in Busan, but the floor plans and interiors of the actual Konjiam Hospital were accurately recreated in post-production.
