Loch Ness

John Henderson directed this 1996 family film, released in August of that year, from a screenplay by John Fusco. Ted Danson plays Dr. Jonathan Dempsey, an American scientist whose reputation rests on exposing creatures that do not exist. Hired to investigate Loch Ness and prove there is nothing in the water, he travels to Scotland expecting to wrap up the job quickly with sonar equipment and modern instruments. He stays at a local inn run by Laura, played by Joely Richardson, and forms a bond with her young daughter Isabel, played by Kirsty Graham. His presence puts him at odds with the residents, particularly the elderly water bailiff played by Ian Holm, who has reasons of his own for keeping the lake's secrets. What Dempsey finds changes the purpose of his trip.

The film was a British and American co-production from PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Working Title Films, produced by Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan and Stephen Ujlaki. John Henderson's directing credits, in chronological order, are this film followed by Hospital! in 1997. Alongside the leads, the cast includes James Frain and Keith Allen.
