What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on David Nicholls' novel "One Day" (2009).
  • After reading one of the first drafts of the script, Anne Hathaway liked the character of Emma so much that she flew to London to explain to director Lone Scherfig why she should get the role.
  • David Nicholls was inspired to choose the date of July 15th by Billy Bragg's song "St. Swithun's Day", which he first heard in the 80s.
  • The scene in which Dex and Emma swim naked is the only one in which actors Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess do not wear wigs.
  • Emma Morley was reading Milan Kundera's "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" on the beach.
  • In Edinburgh, where the graduation ceremony took place, it should be light at 6 p.m., as graduations fall in July.
  • The film depicts the year 1994 in one scene. However, Portcullis House is visible to the right of Big Ben, even though it was only built in 2001.
  • In 2000, the couple meets on the roof after Colin's wedding. Two skyscrapers are visible in the distance, one of which is the Heron Tower, but construction of this skyscraper was not completed until 2010.
