- More than one and a half kilometers of trenches were dug for filming the movie.
- Six months were required to rehearse all the scenes before filming began.
- In the Low Force area, on the River Tees near Teesdale, where the film was shot, signs were erected warning people that the body parts scattered around the area were mannequins.
- The film was shot in long takes (up to 8 and a half minutes), and then edited to look like a single shot.
- Natural resource specialists, concerned that filming on Salisbury Plain, near Stonehenge, could damage hypothetical burial sites, requested archaeological surveys before the construction of any structures.
