The Relative Worlds

Shin is a high school student in Tokyo whose life is disrupted by the arrival of Jin, a duplicate of himself from a parallel world. In Jin's reality, Japan is a duchy ruled by a tyrannical princess named Kotoko, who is the counterpart to Shin's childhood friend, Kotori. The two worlds are linked, meaning that the death of an individual in one realm causes the immediate death of their double in the other. Jin intends to kill Kotori to eliminate the oppressor in his own world, while Shin struggles to protect her amidst a mysterious epidemic of sudden deaths.

Written, produced, and directed by Yuhei Sakuragi, this Japanese production combines elements of science fiction, fantasy, and romance. The voice cast features Yuki Kaji as Shin, Yoshiki Nakajima as Jin, Maaya Uchida as Kotori, and Sayaka Senbongi as Kotoko, with additional roles voiced by Aoi Yuki and Inori Minase. Released in 2019 with a runtime of 93 minutes, the film was produced by CRAFTAR and Shochiku Media Division. Audience reception is mixed but consistent across platforms, with a rating of 5.8/10 on IMDb from 553 votes and a 5.9/10 on TMDB from 67 votes.
