It was announced in September 2016 that Carlo Mirabella-Davis would be directing a film based on his own screenplay. The author based it on his grandmother's obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD, and wrote a script about a pregnant housewife who develops an irresistible urge to swallow all sorts of inedible objects. His grandmother's OCD manifested as a desire to hand wash, but Mirabella-Davis decided that this syndrome wasn't very cinematic and changed it.
The film was shot in a glass house in Highland, New York, near the Hudson River, and on a nearby farm. The director and screenwriter Carlo Mirabella-Davis chose this house for filming because of its "Hitchcockian atmosphere."
