What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot for eleven weeks in the Republic of South Africa and for another two weeks in London in the spring of 2006.
  • The idea for the film was taken from the novel of the same name by Richard Doyle, who attempts to predict the possible development of events if the Thames Barrier fails to withstand the water pressure and London is flooded.
  • This film became the last work in cinema for British actress Moira Lister. She passed away two days after the film's release.
  • Twenty-six sets with structures submerged in water were constructed for filming the actors in various flood scenes. Miniature sets in huge water tanks were used to film flooded large objects, such as the Thames Barrier, the London Underground, and parking garages. Large-scale shots of flooded London were obtained using computer graphics by overlaying water onto regular footage of the city.
  • In New Zealand and Canada, the film was released on television as a mini-series with a total duration of just over three hours, compared to the 110-minute theatrical version.
