Treasure Island

Treasure Island is an adventure film about a young boy, Jim Hawkins, who comes into possession of a map showing where the notorious pirate Captain Flint hid his treasure. With the help of a doctor and a squire, Jim joins a voyage to a distant Caribbean island to recover it. The ship's crew, however, includes many of Flint's former pirates, among them the one-legged cook Long John Silver, whose intentions for the gold do not match those of the expedition.

The film was directed by Byron Haskin and written by Lawrence Edward Watkin, produced by Walt Disney and Perce Pearce for Walt Disney Productions, and made in the United Kingdom and the United States. It was the first feature Haskin directed and the earliest title in the filmography listed for him, ahead of Warpath, The War of the Worlds, Conquest of Space and Robinson Crusoe on Mars. Bobby Driscoll plays Jim Hawkins, with Robert Newton as Long John Silver, Basil Sydney as Captain Smollett, Walter Fitzgerald as Squire Trelawney, Denis O'Dea as Dr. Livesy and Finlay Currie as Billy Bones. The production credited 34 cast members and 51 crew members, and the film runs 96 minutes.
