Torpedo Run

Torpedo Run is a World War II drama set in the South Pacific in 1942. Lieutenant Commander Barney Doyle commands the American submarine Shark, and his obsession is a Japanese aircraft carrier he is determined to sink. The mission becomes complicated when Doyle learns that the carrier is shielded by a transport ship carrying American prisoners, among them his wife Jane. He must weigh his orders to attack against the presence of the woman he loves on board the escorted vessel. The film stars Glenn Ford as Doyle and Ernest Borgnine as Lieutenant Archer Sloan, with Diane Brewster as Jane, Dean Jones as Lieutenant Jake Foley, L.Q. Jones as Hash Benson, and Philip Ober as Admiral Samuel Setton.

Joseph Pevney directed the film for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, working from a screenplay by Richard Sale and William Wister Haines, with Edmund Grainger producing. It followed Pevney's earlier naval drama Away All Boats, released two years before. The production carried a budget of two million dollars and returned roughly one million dollars at the worldwide box office.

Audience response has been modest. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from about 2,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 29 votes. Twenty-three performers are credited in the cast, and the film runs 98 minutes.
