Chupa

Thirteen-year-old Alex travels from Missouri to Mexico to meet his grandfather's family for the first time. At his grandfather Chava's ranch, he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in the shed. The creature, called Chupa, shares a connection with the family, and a determined researcher, Richard Quinn, is hunting it for its powers. To protect Chupa, Alex and his cousins Luna and Memo set out on an adventure that tests their family bonds.

Jonás Cuarón directed the film, his second feature after Desierto (2015) and before Campeón Gabacho (2026). The screenplay is by Marcus Rinehart, Joe Barnathan and Sean Kennedy Moore, and the producers include Chris Columbus. Evan Whitten plays Alex, with Demián Bichir as Chava, Christian Slater as Richard Quinn, Ashley Ciarra as Luna and Julio Cedillo as Dr. Juan Carlos Ortega. The film runs 98 minutes and is a Mexican-American co-production.

Released in April 2023, Chupa drew a mixed response. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 8,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from roughly 384 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 from 24 reviews places professional opinion close to the IMDb audience figure, slightly below the TMDB score.
